Assistance sought following bag snatches, NSW

Police are investigating after two bag snatches at Wagga Wagga today, including one where a woman was assaulted, NSW Police say.

In the first incident, a 63-year-old woman was standing at a bus stop on Bruce Street, Tolland, about 7.30am today when a male took her handbag from the ground in front of her.

The male, wearing dark clothing and a hooded top over his head, ran across Chambers Park towards Fernleigh Road.

Police later recovered the handbag with items removed from the yard of a nearby home.

Just after 10am, a 40-year-old woman was on playground equipment with her six-year-old daughter at Maher Street Park, Tolland, when she was approached from behind by two males wearing dark clothing and with their faces covered.

One of the males grabbed the woman’s handbag and, during a struggle, struck her a number of times in the back and shoulder.

She lost hold of her bag and the males ran from the scene, removing a purse from the handbag which was then discarded.

Police believe the two incidents are linked and are seeking assistance from any person who can identify the males or has other information to assist.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
