An Atherton State Emergency Service (SES) member has been awarded the service's highest honour, winning the Minister's Cup for Member of the Year.
Kylie Lang, a local controller with the Far Northern Unit, received the prestigious acknowledgement at the SES State Awards on Saturday afternoon in Brisbane, which marked the end of SES week across Queensland.
She was recognised for her exceptional leadership, dedication, and contribution to strengthening the local group, and for her service to the community.
During the past year, Ms Lang deployed to Einasleigh, Georgetown, Normanton, Cardwell, Longreach, and Charleville following flood events, assisting the community in recovery, operating flood boats, and working with residents directly.
In total, she dedicated more than 500 hours to the service in the twelve months to March 2026.
Far Northern Regional Director Wayne Coutts said Ms Lang is extremely deserving of the honour.
"We are so proud of Kylie and her amazing contribution to the region," Regional Director Coutts said.
"Kylie consistently fosters an inclusive and supportive environment, strengthening member engagement, confidence, and retention.
Ms Lang said she is humbled to have been recognised.
"Receiving the award was such a surprise," Ms Lang said.
"I was thrilled to even be nominated for the regional awards, let alone win the State award.
"It's an honour to represent Atherton and the Far Northern region."
