Attempt carjack of taxi in Glebe

Police are investigating the attempted carjacking of a taxi in Sydney’s Inner West.

About 10.15pm today, a taxi, containing a male and female passenger, was on Lodge Street, Glebe, after travelling from Redfern, when the passengers assaulted the 50-year-old male driver and attempted to steal the vehicle.

As a result of the struggle, the taxi crashed into a number of parked vehicles.

The passengers then fled the scene. The taxi driver received minor facial injuries, NSW Police say.

He was treated at the scene by Ambulance Paramedics.

The male passenger has been described as Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, aged in his late teens, skinny build, with short black hair and missing a top tooth.

The female is described as aged in her late teens, blonde hair, slim build, wearing a white t shirt.

Detectives from Leichhardt Local Area Command are conducting inquiries.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
