Attempted abduction, North Rockhampton

A man is assisting police with their enquiries following an attempted abduction that occurred in North Rockhampton earlier this morning.

A 24-year-old woman was standing outside a hotel on Main Street this morning around 12.15 when she was approached by an unknown man who asked for directions.

The man suddenly placed the woman in a headlock and attempted to drag her towards a ute that was parked nearby.

The pair struggled, and the woman was able to alert nearby residents and when the man saw other people approaching, he released the woman and fled the scene in the ute.

Responding police have sighted the vehicle travelling south on the Bruce Highway around 1.30am and have commenced a pursuit.

Officers have deployed a tyre deflation device at around 1.45am and the vehicle continued to travel around the Rockhampton area when he fled the car on Emu Park Road around 2.10am.

Police dog Griffin and his handler have tracked into long grass nearby and the man kicked PD Griffin before the dog bit him on the leg and his handler and other police were able to take the man into custody.

The woman did not sustain any physical injures as a result of the incident.

A 21-year-old man was transported to Rockhampton Hospital for treatment of a dog bite to his leg and is now being questioned by detectives.

Investigations are continuing, and police are appealing to anyone that was in the area at the time or may have dashcam to contact them.
