Police are investigating following an attempted armed robbery in Werribee on 5 July, Victoria Police say.
Investigators have been told a 12-year-old girl was at a bus stop on Kookaburra Avenue between 3.45pm and 4pm when a male armed with a knife approached her and demanded her mobile phone.
A male member of the public intervened and pulled the man away from the girl, who was able to run from the scene.
The man is perceived to be Asian in appearance and about 180cm tall.
He was wearing a white-collared shirt, black fluffy jacket and black jeans at the time.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, particularly the man who intervened, to come forward.
