Attempted carjacking and break-in, man charged, NSW

A man will face court after an alleged attempted carjacking and break-in at Port Macquarie yesterday, NSW Police say.

Police will allege about 2pm yesterday, a 50-year-old man was parked in a car park on Short Street, Port Macquarie when he was approached by a man holding a pair of scissors.

The man allegedly entered the car and demanded he be driven to Lake Cathie. The 50-year-old man was able to exit from the car and alert police, before the man fled the scene.

About 2.30pm, patrolling officers were alerted to an incident at a home at Talara Place, Lake Cathie.

On their way, officers located and arrested a 23-year-old man on a bridge.

Police will allege the man attempted to carjack the 50-year-old man and then broke into the home at Lake Cathie and assaulted and threatened a male resident with a knife.

The 25-year-old man was taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital under police guard before he was taken to Port Macquarie Police Station and charged with:.

- Aggravated break, enter and commit serious indictable offence;

- Commit serious indictable offence (intimidation);

- Assault (x2);

- Carry cutting implement;

- Unauthorised entry of a vehicle; and

- Two outstanding warrants

The man was refused bail to appear at Port Macquarie Bail Court today.

No-one was injured during the incidents.
