Attempted carjacking / wounding at Sunnybank Hills, QLD

Police are investigating a violent attempted carjacking that occurred at Sunnybank Hills this afternoon, Queensland Police say.

At about midday, a man armed with a knife entered a Hyundai Tuscon that was parked in a driveway on Stringybark Street and attempted to start the vehicle.

The female owner of the vehicle entered the car as the vehicle commenced backing down the driveway.

The man stopped the vehicle at the end of the driveway and ran towards a waiting white coupe that a second male offender was seated in.

A male occupant of the house chased after the man and reached inside the white coupe in an attempt to remove the car keys.

The male offender cut the man’s hand with a knife preventing him from getting the keys.

The male offenders fled the scene in the white coupe that was stolen some time on Tuesday night from a residence on Bernays Road at Wynnum West.

Police investigating the matter tracked the vehicle containing the men with the assistance of Polair to the Bruce Highway at the Sunshine Coast.

The vehicle continued onto Maryborough where at about 3.37pm, it crashed at the intersection of Russell and Edward streets.

The two men then assaulted a 63-year-old man in Caringa Street before stealing his white Kia that was parked in the driveway.

The Kia was last sighted heading northbound near Howard at 3.45pm.

Investigations are continuing.
