Attempted Copper Theft Charges At Townsville

Detectives have charged two men with multiple offences in relation to an alleged attempted copper theft incident at Deeragun on Sunday, 11 January.

It will be alleged, about 5.50pm, two men were seen lifting pit lids and cutting what appeared to be cooper wire near the Bruce Highway on ramp.

A short time later, the Townsville Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) arrested both men at an Oak Street address at Deeragun.

a 34-year-old Bundaberg North man and a 50-year-old Heatley man were taken into custody.

They have since been charged with seven counts of severing with intent to steal and one count of possess by day instruments of house breaking with intent commit indicatable offence.

They are expected to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court today, 12 January.

Investigations are ongoing.
