Attempted Kidnapping In Footscray

Maribyrnong Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for witnesses following an attempted kidnapping of a child in Footscray on 25 March.

Investigators were told two boys, aged 5 and 14-years-of age, were walking along Eldridge Street when a man approached and attempted to pick up the 5-year-old about 3.50pm.

The teenage boy tried to intervene however was punched to the face and knocked to the ground.

A neighbour nearby witnessed the incident and yelled out to the man to put the boy down.

The man complied and walked away towards Kinnear Street.

The 5-year-old boy was unharmed while the 14-year-old sustained minor injuries.

Police have released two images and footage of a man who they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
