Attempted murder charge following knife attack on officer in Eastwood

A man will face court later today charged with the alleged attempted murder of a police officer outside Eastwood Police Station this morning, NSW Police say.

About 3am (Thursday 12 July 2018), two officers, a male Leading Senior Constable and a female Probationary Constable, were walking towards the entrance of Eastwood Police Station on Ethel Street, when a man approached from behind.

Police will allege the man produced a knife and attempted to stab the male officer three times, before running towards Ethel Lane where one officer attempted to taser the man, without effect.

Six officers pursued the man on foot, before he turned to face police – still holding the knife – and was arrested after being tasered.

The 28-year-old was taken to Ryde Police Station where he was charged with attempted murder.

He was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court later today (Thursday 12 July 2018).

The officer wasn’t physically injured in the incident.
