Attempted robbery of $94,000 of gold in Chatswood

Police are investigating after the alleged assault and attempted robbery of man carrying $94,000 worth of gold on Sydney’s north shore. , NSW Police say

Just before 2pm today, police were called to Thomas Street, Chatswood following reports of two men fighting.

Officers attached to North Shore Local Area Command attended the location and found a 50-year-old man with lacerations to his face.

Police were told by the man he dropped a woman off in Thomas Street, Chatswood, and as she exited the vehicle, another man got into the car and struck the 50-year-old man on the face with a metal object.

The 50-year-old man attempted to drive away before he was allegedly hit again, before the other man grabbed the bag of gold and a mobile phone and ran away.

The victim gave chase and the two men then became involved in a physical altercation, with the 50-year-old man securing the bag of gold and the other man fleeing the scene.

NSW Ambulance Paramedics treated the 50-year-old man at the scene, before taking him to Royal North Shore Hospital.

Police have seized items for forensic examination and commenced an investigation.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
