Attempted Stealing - Alice Springs

Police are calling for witnesses following an attempted bag snatch on Todd Street.

At around 11:30pm on Friday 22 June, three women were walking along Todd Street when an unknown youth approached them and attempted to steal a handbag from one of them, Northern Territory Police say.

The woman held onto the bag, which resulted in the offender pulling her to the ground where she sustained bruising and grazing to her ankle, knee and elbow. The youth fled the scene empty handed, heading toward the Todd Mall.

The alleged offender is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, aged in his early teens. He was wearing a black hooded jumper with blue sleeves, a black coloured baseball cap, dark coloured jeans and black shoes with a white sole.

Senior Constable Grant Edinborough said Police believe there was a group of women they believe witnessed the incident and may be able to provide further information.

"We would appreciate if these women, or anyone else with information related to this incident, could contact Police or come into the station to help us identify the offender," said SC Edinborough.

Police urge anyone who witnessed the incident or may have information to please contact them on 131 444 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
