Attendance at Human Rights Council

Minister for Foreign Affairs Senator the Hon Marise Payne

I will visit Geneva during 24-25 February to participate in the High-Level Segment of the UN Human Rights Council's 40th session, delivering Australia's national statement and raising human rights situations of global concern.

This year is our second as a member of the Human Rights Council, following the Coalition Government's successful campaign to secure a seat from 2018 to 2020 in our resolve to continue to defend the international rules-based order.

During the visit, I will also meet with senior UN representatives and key heads of state and foreign ministers attending the Human Rights Council session.

I will also address the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva to underline our steadfast support of the maintenance of global stability and security through advancing disarmament and non-proliferation.
