Australian METS and green economy companies had a strong showing at Expomin, Latin America's largest mining exhibition.
Held every 2 years, it brings together more than 1,300 exhibitors from 35 countries (Source: Expomin). In April 2025, Austrade, in collaboration with Austmine, organised the Australian Pavilion and business program at Expomin in Santiago.
Austrade's business program gave 17 Australian METS firms the opportunity showcase their solutions focused on improving productivity, workplace safety, and efficient water and energy management. At Expomin, the businesses presented their solutions and technologies to 5 key mining companies in Chile, resulting in 68 meetings with large and medium-scale mining companies.
Austrade also led the first ever Australian green economy delegation at Expomin. The delegation included 8 Australian companies dedicated to green industries, with technologies, services, and solutions to support the energy transition and decarbonisation of mining. The delegation participated in B2B and information sessions, networking opportunities, and one-on-one client meetings aligned with current opportunities in the market.

Opportunities in complementary sectors
More than 100 Australian companies have a presence in Chile, or operate in the Chilean mining sector - a testament to the strong trade relationship between the 2 countries. Chile is considered one of the most developed in Latin America, with mining a significant contributor to its economy (Source: Resource Industry Network, Chile's Mining Sector).
Alongside opportunities in Chile's mining sector, there are complementary opportunities around sustainable mining, renewable energy, and the energy transition. Like other nations, Chile is working towards net-zero and preparing the workforce of the future, so opportunities can be found in education and research and development.
