The Albanese Government's support for major sporting events in the lead-up to Brisbane 2032 continues this week with the start of the 2025 ICF Slalom World Championships.

Athletes from across the world will descend on the Penrith Whitewater Stadium in Sydney from September 29 to October 4 for a shot at the World Champion title on the Sydney 2000 Olympic whitewater course.

The event is supported by $1.2 million from the Albanese Government to help Paddle Australia stage the Championships, alongside the New South Wales Government's investment of $2 million.

Coinciding with the 25-year anniversary of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, the Championships will showcase high performance sport to a new generation on the runway to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Australia holds a proud record in canoe slalom events following the gold medal haul at last year's Paris Olympic Games by the Fox sisters, Jessica and Noemie.

With a range of grassroots activations and 'come and try' opportunities, the event will have ongoing positive social impacts - promoting increased participation in sport and greater connection within the Australian community. It will also be a major economic and tourism boost for the region.
