Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

The Australian Government has committed $750,000 to support the successful planning and delivery of the event.

Announced by Minister for Communications and Sport the Hon Anika Wells MP yesterday , it will be the first time Australia has hosted the Women's Softball World Cup Finals since the inaugural Softball World Championships in 1965.

The event, which is held every two years, is a welcome addition to the green and gold decade of major international sporting events being hosted in Australia in the lead up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The hosting of major women's sporting events on home soil supports the goals of the government's National Sport Strategy, Sport Horizon, and the opportunities these events create, including:

  • inspiring and motivating participation in sport
  • encouraging women and girls to be active and pursue sporting ambitions
  • supporting our athletes to compete with integrity and perform at their best
  • achieving positive economic, social and environmental outcomes
  • promoting inclusion through safe and welcoming environments.

The Women's Softball World Cup finals 2027 will be held from 5-11 April 2027 in Redcliffe, Queensland, showcasing Queensland and the nation as a world-class destination for sport and tourism.

It will be a great opportunity to see one of our most successful women's sporting teams, the Aussie Spirit, compete on the world stage.

The Spirit is currently ranked 8th in the world and will seek to emulate the success they achieved in 1965 when they stunned the world by beating the dominant USA team.

The Australian Government is proud to support the Finals which are a welcome addition to the green and gold decade of major international sporting events in Australia.
