Australian landmarks light up orange for Census

Landmarks in every state and territory across Australia will light up orange tonight to support the 2021 Census and remind people that it's Census night.

Andrew Henderson, Census Executive Director and national spokesperson, said the participation of so many landmarks and venues all across Australia reflects how important the Census is for the local community.

"Census data provides a comprehensive snapshot not only of the nation, but also of communities right around Australia. It gives us essential information about our economic, social and cultural makeup.

"This information helps to plan and deliver crucial services, so everyone's participation is important.

"This year, Census data will be more important than ever, as it will provide valuable insights into how the pandemic has changed life in Australia.

"For example, it will tell us who is moving and will provide a detailed picture of changes in work practices in metropolitan and regional Australia. It will also provide evidence of fluctuations in population growth.

"Thanks to everyone who has already completed early. We're encouraging everyone who hasn't yet completed their Census to take the opportunity to complete it today as soon as you can."

People can complete their Census online using a phone, tablet or computer. Paper forms are also available by calling our automated request service on 1800 130 250.
