Australian know-how will be used to grow Indonesia’s logistic sector and ultimately benefit trade between the two nations.
The Morrison Government has funded a $212,000 Enabling Growth and Innovation (EGI) grant for Deakin University to establish an industry-led vocational education and training (VET) system for Indonesia’s logistics sector that will provide training and qualifications to improve the local industry.
Minister for Education Dan Tehan said the project would see a stronger education partnership between the two countries.
"Education is key to economic development in our region," Mr Tehan said.
"Trade between Australia and Indonesia was worth $16 billion last year. The focus on Indonesia’s logistics sector will help improve trade between our nations and grow both our economies."
The project is an early outcome for the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
Minister for Small and Family Business, Skills and Vocational Education Senator Michaelia Cash said opening the door to further international collaboration in education, business and investment was important in our globalised world.
"Australian VET providers will have the opportunity to deliver more skills training in Indonesia, forging closer links with our largest neighbour," Ms Cash said.
"Positive projects such as this will continue to boost Australia’s reputation for international education, including VET."
International education is Australia’s third largest export, contributing $32 billion to the Australia economy and supporting more than 240,000 jobs across our major cities and key regional areas.
