Australias future state 5G internet service arrives

Australian homes and business on the cusp of next gen internet

Australias first Fixed Wireless connection powered by Optus 5G Max

Limited trial begins in Sydney and Melbourne

Australia is on the cusp of delivering mega fast 5G to businesses and homes with the first user trialling a Fixed Wireless connection powered by the new Optus 5G Max network.

The trialist, sports and entertainment business Oakleigh Indoor Sports & Inflatable World in Huntingdale Melbourne is seeing initial average download speeds of 2.5Gbps. With hundreds of visitors to the centre each weekend, the huge bandwidth and ultra-fast speeds of Optus 5G Max* will provide ample capacity to help keep visitors connected as well as create the optimum environment for the centre to stream live content on screens across the facility in real-time.

What a milestone for Australia as this transformational technology begins to find its way into homes and businesses and deliver more connectivity options, said Matt Williams, Managing Director Optus Marketing and Revenue. Its about connecting customers with technology that improves their lives and 5G Max does exactly that, providing the capacity required to have large numbers of devices all connected simultaneously without compromising speed and connectivity.

This limited trial is a fantastic example of how we implement real-life test cases, ensuring that we are delivering the right solution for our customers.

Using a mmWave-capable modem and an antennae unit which is installed on the exterior of the premises, this Optus 5G Max powered internet is expected to deliver incredibly high speeds.

When available commercially, it will help businesses accelerate their digital transformation as Australia focuses attentions on its digital economy ambitions. With immense capacity, staggering speed and low latency offered by Optus 5G, businesses will gain the reliability needed to drive innovation with immersive experiences that will allow staff and customers to connect in new ways. We already have Australias fastest 5G mobile network as awarded by OoklaTM and this takes that speed to a whole new level for the future of home and office connectivity, added Mr Williams.

Its fantastic to be the first business in Australia equipped with Optus fixed wireless mmWave product, said Zac Kimmel, owner of Oakleigh Indoor Sports & Inflatable World. We get hundreds of visitors to the venue across the weekends so the extra capacity and high speed that this solution is providing our customers has been a real game changer. Being able to automate different aspects of our business through mmWave technology is also something that Im really looking forward to exploring.

Optus plans to extend this trial to a limited number of participants over the coming weeks via a closed invitation.

*Optus 5G Max is starting to rollout in select areas of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Actual speeds and performance will vary and depend on various factors. See optus.com.au/5g for more info.
