Author Talk With Fiona McArthur

Kempsey Shire Council

Yesterday's Author Talk with Australian writer Fiona McArthur was truly delightful, with 25 attendees enjoying an engaging and heartfelt session.

Fiona spoke passionately about her latest novel, The Lightning Ridge Ladies, her first foray into romantic suspense, which became Australia's bestselling fiction book just two weeks after its release!

She shared the message at the heart of her storytelling: "Friends are more precious than anything." Her talk took us on a journey through the landscapes and people that inspired the book, especially her travels to the unique and welcoming town of Lightning Ridge.

One particularly special moment was Fiona's recollection of the book launch held at the Tourist Information Centre, hosted by Di and her team, an experience she described as deeply meaningful. Attendees enjoyed photos of quirky local sights (like the iconic yellow door tour signs) and breathtaking scenes from dawn and dusk which inspired Fiona's tale.

Among the most touching parts of the event were Fiona's stories about the real people who inspired her characters, especially Luci, a pregnant woman with vision impairment, whose strength and spirit shine through in the novel.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, it was a special event.
