Autumn pasture recovery farm walk at Wairewa

The first in a series of on-farm pasture walks across East Gippsland will be held at Wairewa on Tuesday 30 March from 1 to 3 pm.

Gippsland Agriculture Recovery Manager Keren Walker said the farm walk will focus on assessing the current state of fire-affected pastures, ongoing management and autumn sowing options.

Agriculture Victoria officers with expertise in pastures, cropping, soil fertility, soil conservation, and animal nutrition will present at the event and be available to consult with farmers in attendance.

Presentations will focus on the following topics, with plenty of time to discuss issues and consider questions:

  • assessing current pasture condition
  • autumn planning and management of existing pastures
  • pasture and cropping options for winter feed and replenishing fodder reserves
  • preparation and sowing
  • weed identification and control
  • soil fertility.
