Do you have a business with a fun idea that could bring more people to Chapel Street?
A new $50,000 Business Activation Fund has launched, giving eligible Chapel Street businesses the opportunity to apply for up to $5,000 (excl GST) to bring events, activities and experiences to life.
The fund is all about supporting business-led ideas that attract visitors, encourage people to spend locally and add to the energy and vibrancy of the Chapel Street precinct.
Think pop-ups, art exhibitions, workshops, performances, wellness activities, progressive dinners or collaborations linked to major Melbourne festivals. Activations need to be temporary, free to attend and open to the public.
Part of a bigger plan for Chapel Street
The Business Activation Fund is one of the actions being delivered through the Chapel Street Precinct Improvement Plan 2026/27, Council's coordinated approach to supporting and strengthening the precinct.
The Plan brings together initiatives focused on attracting more people to Chapel Street, supporting local businesses and creating a precinct that feels vibrant, safe welcoming and worth returning to.
Through the Business Activation Fund, we're putting some of that work directly into the hands of local businesses - supporting them to test creative ideas, collaborate and give people even more reasons to visit Chapel Street.
Applications will be assessed on their potential to encourage visitation, increase foot traffic and local spending, create a strong sense of place and deliver broader benefits for the precinct.
Who can apply?
The fund is available to eligible businesses operating within the Chapel Street Special Rate Scheme area, with up to $5,000 (excl GST) available per activation.
Applications close 11.59pm Sunday 25 October 2026, with successful activations to be delivered between November 2026 and the end of May 2027.
Have an idea? Read the Activation Guidelines to check your eligibility and funding requirements, then submit your application before 25 October.
