An emergency exercise will be held at Ballina Byron Gateway Airport on Tuesday 28 October 2025 from 8am to 12pm.

Emergency service agencies will participate in the exercise in collaboration with airport staff, including members of NSW Fire and Rescue, NSW Police, State Emergency Services, NSW Ambulance, Airservices Australia, and the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Service.

Every two years the airport conducts a full field exercise to test the effectiveness of the aerodrome emergency plan. This exercise is essential to meet Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) requirements.

"We run simulated emergencies on the airfield to make sure our procedures stay up to date and effective," said Julie Stewart, Airport Manager.

"These exercises take significant planning and coordination with our emergency service partners. They provide an invaluable opportunity for agencies to work together and ensure that, in the unlikely event of a real emergency, everyone is well-prepared and ready to respond efficiently."

This exercise will not impact scheduled flights and terminal operations will remain unaffected for passengers and visitors.

For enquiries about this exercise please contact Ballina Byron Gateway Airport Manager, Ms Julie Stewart, on 1300 864 444.
