Barber Shop Fire Second Night In Row - Merrylands

A barber shop has allegedly been targeted a second night in a row as police continue their investigation.

Just after 4am yesterday (Thursday 8 May 2025), police commenced an investigation following reports of a fire at a barber shop on Merrylands Road, Merrylands West.

About 3.10am today (Friday 9 May 2025), officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command attempted to stop a silver Hyundai I30 with false plates on Sherwood Road, Merrylands West.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated and progressed through Merrylands West, Woodpark, and Wentworthville before the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.

About the same time, police received reports that a fire had started inside a barber shop on Merrylands Road, Merrylands, but had failed to cause damage to the structure before Fire and Rescue NSW attended.

A crime scene was established and inquiries are ongoing.

Police believe the vehicle involved in the pursuit may be linked to the fire.
