Nine firearms have been seized and a man has been charged following compliance checks by Barrier Police District's Rural Crime Prevention Team (RCPT) in the state's Far West.
RCPT Police attended a property on Mount Westwood Road, Fowlers Gap, about 200km north of Broken Hill, about 11am Tuesday (2 July 2025), to conduct a firearms compliance check.
Police will allege that during the compliance check, four firearms and ammunition were found inside the home that were not safely contained.
A further four firearms and ammunition were allegedly located unsecured in an unlocked safe.
An unregistered .222 rifle was also allegedly located within the safe.
Police seized a total of nine firearms and more than 2000 rounds of ammunition.
A 42-year-old man has been charged with possess unregistered firearm – not pistol/prohibited firearm, not keep firearm safely – not pistol/prohibited firearm and holder of category A or B licence not have approved storage.
He was issued a Court Attendance Notice to appear before Broken Hill Local Court on Tuesday 19 August 2025.
