Moira Shire Council is pleased to announce the reopening of Bartrops Bridge on Griffiths Lane in the Kotupna/Nathalia area, marking the completion of significant bridge renewal works.
The new bridge removes the former 6-tonne load limit, providing a more reliable connection and supporting the region's transport network through improved safety and a smoother travel experience.
The renewal of Bartrops Bridge marks the completion of a broader $2.9 million bridge redevelopment program that also included the upgrade of Bourkes Bridge on Murray Road, Nathalia, which reopened in April 2026.
These projects were jointly funded by the Australian Government through the Bridges Renewal Program and Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program, and Moira Shire Council.
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said the completion of both bridges was a significant milestone for the region.
"These two bridges form vital connections for our communities, farmers and emergency services, and we are pleased to see this program delivered," Dr Emonson said.
"Replacing the last of our ageing timer bridges with modern structures is a strong investment in the long-term safety and productivity of Moira Shire."
Together, the two projects have replaced the last remaining wooden bridges in the municipality, improving safety, lifting load restrictions, and strengthening connections for local communities, farmers and emergency services.
