Bay Street building blitz

As Bayside starts to see a light at the end of the COVID-19 tunnel, Council is fast tracking works for Bay Street Brighton.

Works are well underway at the roundabout of Bay and Cochrane Streets and we are now progressing to undertake works at the intersection of Bay and Asling Streets.

On Saturday 23 May, to maintain efficiency there will be crossover when Council undertakes works for both projects and both intersections will be closed. Pedestrians will still be able to access their local shops.

These works are being prioritised so we can complete all construction for Bay Street village before local businesses begin to return to normal trading and there will be no further disruptions to trade.

The pedestrian crossings at the intersection of Bay and Asling Streets were not constructed as per the specifications which has resulted in the occurrence of some vehicles undercarriages scraping. Council's contractor will fund the works to correct the height of the crossings as it could have implications on Public Transport Victoria's (PTV) roll out of their new hybrid buses.

During construction there will be road closures, parking will be impacted and detours in place.

All construction in Bay Street village will be completed by June 2020.
