Across 2023, we will plant approximately 2,300 trees along Bayside streets and within our parks over the planting season until September/October.
Bayside's Urban Forest Strategy aims to increase tree and vegetation cover by up to 30% across the municipality by 2040.
Planting trees to expand our Bayside urban forest helps to address the impact of climate change. More trees and tree canopy helps to shade and cool the urban environment where we live, play and work. Trees also provide habitat for native wildlife and contribute towards improved air quality.
Street trees in nature strips are maintained by Council on behalf of the whole community. Street trees will not be removed unless assessed as dead, dying or dangerous by Council's arborist. Pruning works are undertaken to improve the health of the tree or to keep the canopy clear of infrastructure such as roads or power lines.
