Bayside Streets To Dazzle This Christmas

Bayside Streets are set to dazzle this December following Council's decision to hold a residential Christmas lights competition at the end of the year.

Bayside Mayor Bill Saravinovski used a Mayoral Minute at the February Council Meeting to call for a review on how Council celebrates Christmas.

Council's decision to install giant baubles rather than Christmas trees in 2023 was popular with visitors but drew mixed reviews from the community.

As a result, Council is now undertaking a comprehensive review of all visual aspects of its end-of-year Christmas program.

Councillors have also supported a call for a residential Christmas lights competition similar to those run by other councils.

There are already several streets in Bayside where residents go to great lengths to decorate their homes every year. This competition will encourage others to follow suit and put up their own Christmas decorations.

Details of the competition together with a comprehensive review of plans for visually highlighting the festive Christmas Season will be considered as part of Council's planning and budgeting process for 2024/25.

Mayor Saravinovski said:

"Our annual Christmas Card and Street Flag design competition continues to be popular. The Bayside Christmas flags always look amazing. I can't wait to see residents embrace our Christmas light competition," Mayor Saravinovski said.
