Logan City Council is advising City of Logan residents that important changes will be made to waste collection at the Beenleigh Waste and Recycling Facility during 2026.
From July 1, the facility will no longer accept general waste.
Only domestic green waste, recyclables such as metals, cardboard, batteries, e-waste and good quality second-hand household items (as donations for the Logan Recycling Market) will be accepted.
All general waste will need to be taken to Council's other waste and recycling facilities.
Mayor Jon Raven said the change would address long-standing safety and congestion issues and make the facility more efficient for everyone.
"Beenleigh is one of our busiest sites, but it simply wasn't built for the amount of traffic it gets today," Mayor Raven said.
"The small site is too constrained to expand. This causes issues with traffic, queuing and operational pressures for the community.
"The facility will be improved so it can take a higher volume of green waste, e‑waste and recyclables.
"As the State Government's waste levy increases to discourage landfill dumping, we're asking everyone who regularly uses the Beenleigh Waste and Recycling Facility to prepare themselves now, to ensure things can go as smoothly as possible in July."
All Logan residents will continue to have weekly general waste collection, fortnightly recycling bin collection and scheduled annual bulky waste kerbside collection.
Ratepayers will also continue to receive four waste disposal vouchers annually.
Good-quality household items can still be donated at the Beenleigh facility for resale at Council's Logan Recycling Market, located at the Browns Plains Waste and Recycling Facility.
The market offers low-cost second-hand goods to support community members and local charities.
Council became responsible for the Beenleigh waste facility, which was previously managed by the Gold Coast City Council, after the local government boundary changes in 2008.
The changes at the Beenleigh facility are part of Council's broader strategy to improve the city's waste infrastructure and support its population growth.
Anyone arriving at Beenleigh with general waste after 1 July will be redirected to another Council facility.
Nearby options include Council's Browns Plains and Carbrook waste and recycling facilities.
To boost processing times, Council has upgraded the entry of the Browns Plains Waste and Recycling Facility.
