Officers from Belgrave walked about one and a half kilometres into the Dandenong Ranges to rescue an injured mother and son after a tree branch fell on their home in Olinda last night.
The alarm was raised when the injured woman called Triple Zero (000) just after 11pm.
Emergency services were told a tree branch had crashed through the roof of the double story home extensively damaging the roof and home which entrapped the woman and her young son.
A Belgrave police unit, who themselves were isolated due to fallen trees, then made their way on foot, through the ranges to the injured pair to render assistance.
They were able to rescue the trapped pair who were separated from one another in the home.
Police were also assisted by State Emergency Service personnel who cleared a nearby road so Olinda police could reach the scene to transport the injured mother and son to ambulance paramedics who were waiting at Ferny Creek.
