Labor Leader Rebecca White has encouraged Tasmanians to get out and about in their own state - with or without a travel voucher.
"We applaud the intent of the Make Yourself at Home travel voucher scheme launched today, but note that many will be disappointed to have missed out.
"The Government should have been honest from the beginning that people without computer or internet access were unlikely to benefit from this program.
"It's clear Tasmanians wanted to participate in the scheme, with vouchers 'sold out' in under an hour. We encourage people who have received vouchers to put them to use and make sure they're used to support our tourism operators.
"Tourism is one of the biggest job creating industries in Tasmania, and supporting tourism operators who've been hit by the pandemic will help ensure they can survive it.
"This scheme has the potential to translate to real spending and stimulus in the economy, and every effort must be made to ensure the tourism and hospitality industries reap the full benefits.
"That's why it's so important the government ensures that the intended benefit of the scheme reaches those sectors.
"The government must take steps to ensure vouchers are either used or surrendered back to the pool to be redistributed, so that as many people as possible can take advantage of the scheme to support tourism operators across the state and explore all that Tasmania has to offer."
