New toilets installed at the northern end of Wineglass Bay will help to protect the sensitive natural and cultural values while improving the visitor experience at one of Tasmania's favourite national parks.
The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is a strong supporter of regional tourism, and we understand as visitation to our parks increases, so must our investment in parks infrastructure.
That's why we are modernising our Park entry fee structure which will see an additional $3 million a year invested in our Parks and reserves to ensure the visitor experience matches expectation, whilst protecting what makes these areas so special in the first place.
The new building is 'low-key' and is not visible from the popular Wineglass Bay lookout.
Designed in-house by Parks and Wildlife Service engineers, the structure sits discreetly within the environment. Construction was completed by Coles Bay's own East Coast Constructions Tas.
The high-capacity pod system fully captures all waste which will be flown out and disposed of at a sewage treatment plant and has been designed to reduce the frequency of helicopter fly-outs.
The project was funded through the Tasmanian Government Tourism Infrastructure in Parks (TIIP) program and the Improving State-wide Visitor Infrastructure Program.
