Significant coastal erosion has impacted the Blacksmiths Beach foreshore between Tirriki Street and Amaroo Street, causing damage to dune access tracks and fencing near Binda Street and 53 Ungala Road. The erosion has also led to the removal of the Maneela Street Lookout.

To protect public safety and prevent further damage to the dune system, we have temporarily closed the following beach access points:

  • Maneela Street access

  • Two southern access tracks from the road near Binda Street and Ungala Road

These closures are necessary while the dune scarp remains unstable. Old fencing and exposed materials in the area also pose a risk of injury.

We ask the community to respect these closures and avoid creating informal tracks, which can worsen erosion and delay recovery efforts.

The access points will reopen once the dunes have stabilised and it is safe to reinstate formal pathways.
