Police are investigating after human remains were located in Abbeyard in the state's north east last Saturday.
A body was found by hunters in bushland near Abbeyard Road about 3pm on 11 May.
The remains are currently undergoing forensic testing to determine the identity of the person and if the death is suspicious.
Homicide Squad detectives have travelled to the area to carry out the preliminary investigation and at this stage they believe the deceased is likely to be a woman who formerly resided in Abbeyard.
This woman has not been reported missing, however she has not been seen in the area since August 2018.
Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have information about the disappearance of a woman who had been residing in Abbeyard, or any other information regarding the circumstances of this death.
