Body of missing man found at Balranald

The body of a missing man has been found following a five-day search in the state's Murray region.

About 5.15pm yesterday (Tuesday 10 September 2019), members of the NSW Volunteer Rescue Association Inc (VRA) located a body in the Murrumbidgee River approximately 400m from the missing person's campsite.

Officers attached to Barrier Police District attended the scene.

The body was formally identified as being that of missing Balranald man Andrew Bruton, aged 42, who was last seen in Balranald about 6.30pm Tuesday (3 September 2019).

A search effort was coordinated by Barrier Police District and utilised resources including a Dog Unit handler, Police Diving Unit members, VRA, NSW Rural Fire Service and NSW State Emergency Service operatives.

Police commenced an aerial search on Tuesday (10 September 2019) with the assistance of a Drone Operator from Broken Hill, and the VRA were tasked with ongoing patrols of the river twice daily.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
