Body of missing swimmer located in Sydney Harbour

Police have recovered the body of a man who went missing while swimming in Sydney Harbour yesterday.

About 5.10pm today (Monday 4 October 2021) emergency services were called to Obelisk Beach off Chowder Bay Road, Middle Head, following reports that a swimmer had not resurfaced.

Police have been a group of people were swimming out to a yacht anchored off the beach, when a man disappeared underwater and had not been seen since.

Officers from the Marine Area Command attended and conducted a search with the assistance of PolAir, Marine Rescue and NSW Maritime.

Police divers attended and conducted an underwater search, recovering the body of a 38-year-old man about 8.20pm. He is yet to be formally identified.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
