Body recovered from factory fire - Fairfield East

Police have recovered the body of a man from a building that was destroyed by fire yesterday.

Just before 4pm (Thursday 12 March 2020), Fire and Rescue NSW responded to reports a factory was on fire on Fairfield Street, Fairfield East.

Firefighters arrived a short time later and requested the assistance of police due to safety concerns.

Today (Friday 13 March 2020) NSW Fire and Rescue deemed the structure safe for police to conduct a search of the building.

About 6.40pm, the body of a man was located in a small room inside the factory.

He is yet to be formally identified.

The scene will be subject to further investigation and a brief will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
