Body recovered from Murray River

The body of a man has been recovered from the Murray River following a search operation in the state's south.

About 5pm on Thursday (30 January 2020), emergency services received reports that a 22-year-old man had failed to resurface after diving off a boat on the Murray River near Merbein Common.

Officers from Barrier Police District attended and commenced a search, with the assistance of the State Emergency Service (SES).

The search resumed about 8.30am yesterday (Friday 31 January 2020), and continued until about 4pm when NSW Police divers located the man's body a short distance from where he was last seen.

A crime scene was established, and detectives have commenced inquiries.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
