Bookings now open for Grampians Peaks Trail from July 2022

Parks Victoria

Following the huge success of the first six months of the epic Grampians Peaks Trail, we have today opened future bookings from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023.

Since opening in November 2021, hikers have booked over 7,200 nights to stay at hike-in campgrounds along the length of the trail.

More than 170 hikers provided detailed feedback about their experience along the trail, with over 80% of those surveyed saying they would book again and recommend the trail to others.

The long-distance hike runs down the spine of the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park, from Mt Zero in the north, through Halls Gap, to Dunkeld in the south. The trail provides an immersive experience on the Traditional Lands of the Jadawadjali and Djab Wurrung peoples, who have lived in the ranges they call Gariwerd for thousands of years.

With day hikes, multi-day trips and the full 13-day journey available, hikers can experience a variety of the park's dramatic rocky peaks and outcrops, ravines, waterfalls, forests and lakes. Twenty-six licensed tour operators are licensed to deliver guided tour activities and services on the trail, and local businesses support a range of Grampians Peaks Trail experiences.

The first stage of bookings opened until June 2022 to allow us to collect feedback from hikers and licensed tour operators, helping improve the experience, from booking right through to experiencing the trail.

As a result of this feedback, visitor information, maps and signage have been updated to provide more accurate and useful information about the trail.

We will continue to gather feedback, ensuring the long-term success of the 160km trail, which features eleven hike-in campgrounds on a booking system that reduces congestion on the track and at campgrounds, creating a less crowded experience.

Hiker feedback:

"The Grampians Peaks Trail is such an exciting addition to Victoria - thank you to Parks Victoria for creating it! We travelled as a group (two 65-year-olds and four 30-year-olds) and had a great time. In particular, we thought the facilities at the campsites were fantastic."

"Magnificent trip. The new campgrounds and trails were sensational. At first, I was a bit skeptical about the timber tent platforms, but not only are they comfortable and easy, but a terrific impact mitigation strategy. Can't wait to come back to the trail again."

Book now to experience the unforgettable Grampians Peaks Trail.
