Boost For Wimmera Business Community

  • Minister for Small Business

The Andrews Labor Government is backing the growth of new businesses in the Wimmera through $15,000 funding for the Wimmera Business Centre.

Minister for Small Business Adem Somyurek announced the assistance in Horsham today as he met with local government and community representatives.

The funding will help Wimmera Business Centre deliver events for local businesses who are in the establishment phase and looking to grow.

Wimmera Business Centre is a small business incubator that provides support to start-up and home-based businesses in the Horsham, West Wimmera and Hindmarsh areas.

The funding is part of the Labor Government's commitment to creating a fairer and more supportive environment for small businesses.

There are more than 600,000 small businesses operating in Victoria, representing about 98 per cent of all Victorian businesses.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Victoria recorded a 4.8 per cent increase in the number of small businesses in the year to June 2018 - the highest growth rate in any Australian state or territory.

By supporting the growth of small businesses in the Wimmera region, the Government is helping these key local operators to generate new opportunities for their communities and boost the local economy.

As stated by Minister for Small Business Adem Somyurek

"Victoria is the best state in Australia to build a small business and we are focused on ensuring we provide our programs in all areas."

"By funding Wimmera Business Centre's local events the government is helping deliver tailored support for new businesses setting up in the region, to help them prosper and provide jobs."

As noted by Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford

"This funding will help our local businesses continue to grow and thrive. From cuts to payroll tax to mentoring services, the Andrews Labor Government is continuing to back small business."

As stated by Horsham Rural City Council Economic Development Manager Stephen Pykett

"The Wimmera Business Centre is here to provide a nurturing environment for businesses starting up in the region.

"This funding will ensure our offering extends to as many of them as possible so that they can contribute strongly to the local economy."
