Boosting Early Learning Facilities For Bairnsdale Families

  • Parliamentary Secretary for Early Childhood Education

Families living in Bairnsdale will have access to the upgraded and first-rate early learning facilities they deserve, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Parliamentary Secretary Sonya Kilkenny today joined children and staff at Bairnsdale Kindergarten to officially open its upgraded facilities.

Bairnsdale Kindergarten has upgraded its bathroom, laundry and change area to improve the building’s accessibility and increase the classroom floor space.

This upgrade will give children access to even better facilities so they can get the most out of their time at kinder.

The Victorian Government provided $180,000 through the Children’s Facilities Capital Program, with the kindergarten service contributing more than $4,000 to the project.

The Labor Government is getting on with the state’s biggest early education build over the coming years, with a $1.68 billion co-investment with the early childhood sector to build and expand kindergarten facilities across the state in preparation for the roll-out of Three-Year-Old Kindergarten.

This is part of the Victorian Government’s nearly $5 billion commitment over the next decade to deliver two years of funded kindergarten for all Victorian children.

The reform started in six regional local government areas in 2020, with families in a further 15 regional LGAs – including East Gippsland – to benefit in 2021.

As stated by Parliamentary Secretary for Early Childhood Education Sonya Kilkenny

“Making Victoria the Education State starts with the early years, which is why we’re delivering unprecedented investment in early childhood services.”

“It’s wonderful to celebrate the opening of upgraded facilities at Bairnsdale Kindergarten with staff, families and children ahead of the start Three-Year-Old Kindergarten in East Gippsland next year.”

As stated by Member for Eastern Victoria Jane Garrett

“It’s great to see Bairnsdale children benefitting from fantastic upgraded kindergarten facilities.”
