A boy has been safely rescued after falling from a cliff in the Blue Mountains yesterday, NSW Police say.
Just after 3pm today, a 14-year-old boy was bushwalking with a group of people south of Mount Solitary (about 3km west of Katoomba).
During the walk the boy fell about 30 metres.
A beacon was activated and officers attached to Blue Mountains Police Rescue Squad and NSW Ambulance paramedics commenced searching for the boy.
About 6pm, an Ambulance helicopter successfully winched the boy to safety.
He was taken to Randwick Children’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The remainder of the group the boy was with were safely walked out from the area.
This incident has prompted police to remind anyone entering the bush – even for a short walk –to think before you TREK.
T – Take adequate supplies of food, water, navigation and first aid equipment, including a personal location beacon.
R – Register your planned route and tell friends and family when you expect to return.
E – Emergency beacons are available free of charge from police and National Parks & Wildlife Service.
