Boy rescued from Naracoorte cave, SA

A boy has been rescued after he was trapped for up to five hours down a cave at Naracoorte in the State's South -East earlier tonight , according to SA Police.

At around 3pm on Thursday 20 October, the 12-year-old boy from Adelaide, was part of a visiting school group on a guided tour of a cave on Wonabi Road, when he became wedged in a crevice about 15 metres underground.

Several people attempted to free the boy, before calling in emergency services crews to assist.

Just before 5.30pm Naracoorte police along with local SES and CFS crews responded and eventually freed the boy at around 8pm by chipping away some rock, using a harness and a little bit of olive oil!

The boy received only minor grazes from the incident and was taken to the local Naracoorte Hospital for assessment.

Police wish to thanks the SES and CFS volunteers for their valuable assistance.
