Break and enter arrest near Newcastle, NSW

Police have charged a man following a break and enter near Newcastle overnight, NSW Police say.

About 1am (Tuesday 16 January 2018), police will allege a man broke into a house in Anderton Street, Islington.

The 33-year-old man allegedly stole a handbag, wallet, car keys and a Nissan Navara 4WD parked outside the property.

Police from Newcastle City Local Area Command commenced an investigation.

The vehicle was recovered on Young Road, Broadmeadow, and the man was arrested nearby after a short foot pursuit.

He was taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with aggravated break and enter, take and drive conveyance, goods in custody, and breach of bail.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear before Newcastle Local Court today.
