Bridge Width Reduced On Alton Road, Cooranbong

Lake Macquarie City Council

Lake Macquarie City Council is advising motorists of a reduced bridge width on Alton Road, Cooranbong, over Felled Timber Creek.

The timber, single-lane bridge, originally built in 1977, remains open but has been narrowed from approximately 4.5 metres to 3.2 metres. This adjustment follows a structural assessment that recommended reducing load on the edges of the bridge due to cracking.

The bridge will remain at the reduced width until a full replacement is undertaken. Planning for the replacement is currently underway, with timeframes yet to be confirmed.

There are no vehicle restrictions in place at this time, and the bridge remains safe for use. Emergency repairs were recently carried out following heavy rainfall.

Council will continue to monitor the bridge and provide updates as replacement plans progress.
