Brisbane's hotel market booms as new Westin opens its doors

Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones today declared Brisbane Australia’s hotel hot spot with the opening of the five-star Westin Hotel, the sixth new property in the inner city this year.

"We’re having a dream run with the world-renowned Westin Hotels and Resorts opening their first hotel in Queensland in Mary Street today," she said.

"This five-star, 299-room hotel is a ringing endorsement of Brisbane’s growing reputation as a world-class tourist destination.

"It adds to our already impressive portfolio of hotels that are transforming the profile of Brisbane as a global hub for tourism and major events.

"The Palaszczuk Government has a $12 billion pipeline of new infrastructure in Brisbane because we know we need to invest in Queensland to ensure our tourism industry continues to grow."

The Westin is part of a larger mixed-use development including the Mary Lane Residences. It will occupy levels one to 16 with the Mary Lane Residences from level 17 to 36.

"This new hotel has created 170 jobs here in Brisbane. This is a great shot in the arm to the local tourism industry," Ms Jones said.

"The Westin is also making a splash by launching Brisbane’s first swim-up bar with a view of the city skyline.

"We’re seeing a record number of visitors travelling to Brisbane. We want to see these numbers continue to grow in the future.

"That’s why we’re delivering new infrastructure like Cross River Rail, the new cruise liner terminal, the new runway at Brisbane Airport and the $3.6 billion Queen’s Wharf development."

The Westin and its neighbour, Four Points by Sheraton, are operated under the Marriott International brand portfolio and The Westin Brisbane is owned by Chong family-owned Mary 111 Pty Ltd.
