Budget progress makes for a stronger Australia

Business Council of Australia

"Australians should not underestimate the importance of the progress we have made in clawing our way out of deficit,'' Business Council chief executive Jennifer Westacott said today.

"This isn't a bookkeeping exercise, this is about making the country stronger.

"A budget in endless deficit means there is no room to move and there is no capacity to respond to unexpected shocks.

"A budget in endless deficit also shows we cannot live within our means.

"Australians know from managing their own household budgets that if you can't live within your means and something unexpected comes along, you are in a lot of trouble.

"The Morrison Government has steered us out of that mess.''
