Building and planning investment in Northern Grampians Shire on the rise

Big dollars are being invested into the Northern Grampians Shire, with the latest figures from planning and building permits showing a sharp rise in total value.

Over the past two quarters, the total value of building permits being issued comes in at just over $13 million, in comparison to $6.2 million for the previous two quarters.

But it's not just the overall total value that has increased, with the number of building permits increasing from 76 to 92 over that same timeframe.

On the planning side of the equation the total value of planning permits has boomed over the past financial year, rising from $14.7 million in 2017-18 to $193 million in 2018-19.

The total number of planning permits has remained consistent over the two financial years, going from 86 in 2017-18 to 89 in 2018-19.

This major increase in value is due to many of the large scale projects taking place around the shire, which includes the Bulgana Green Power Hub.

Mayor of Northern Grampians Shire Council, Cr Kevin Erwin said, "We're seeing significant dollars being invested into our shire, which is proof that things are on the up."

"Everything is moving in the right direction with many big projects popping up all around our region, so it's an exciting time for our community."
