Burgled birds back behind bars

Police are investigating the a-parrot theft of eight Indian Ringnecks and four Alexandrian parakeets from their avery in Dandenong North last week, Victoria Police say.

It is believed an offender entered the McFees Road property between 8am and 8pm on Thursday 20 April, cutting the padlock and stealing the valuable rare parrots.

Without feather ado, an investigation was launched leading to detectives swooping on a Latham Crescent, Dandenong address on Saturday 22 April.

In nest to no time 10 of the allegedly purloined parrots were recovered.

However the 59-year-old male victim still has a case of empty nest syndrome with two birds, a male yellow Indian ringneck parrot and a yellow and white female Indian ringneck parrot, still having flown the coop.

All recovered birds were unharmed aside from having some ruffled feathers.

At this time there have been no arrests.

Detectives at Greater Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit have taken this case under their wing and are asking for the public’s assistance.

Anyone with any information regarding the incident or the whereabouts of the two outstanding birds is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
